I'm in CVS today getting some odds and ends and i'm at the checkout and the two girls behind the counter neither of which could be over 21 are talking about movies.
I'm a horror movie fan so I chimed in ....."that sounds familiar...what movie are you talking about?"...
and her reply:

"I can't remember but it's some classic horror movie from 1989"



I ... really have nothing more to say ... I'm going to go pick out a burial plot!

Netfilx & Wikipedia

So I'm cruising around Netflix...the absolute best investment i've ever made...at least when compared to the amount of money i've spent on DVD's in the past.

They have this great little feature...Watch INSTANTLY....
For those not "in the know" Instant gratification is fabulous and of course, one of my downfalls (shhh don't tell my sponsor)..anyway
So I decide, in lieu of work...to watch one of the 200 videos that are in my queue (only 20 are available for watching instantly). one of the videos in my queue is called Festival Express. I am not a 60's & 70's music buff, but i do get some enjoyment from Janis Joplin and the Grateful Dead. So i'm watching what I could only perceive to be as Canada's version of Woodstock...absolute mayhem...craziness and just before it all starts the date flashes across the screen June 27th, 1970
OH MY GOD!!!!
My mother was pushing me out while all this was going on...of course she was safe and sound in what at the time was called Nassau Hospital.
Regardless...It's a pretty interesting documentary..and some great impromptu music by the greats of the time!!!

Anyway...other things of significance on that date:

• 1358 - the Republic of Dubrovnik was founded (coincidentally I am part Croatian hmmmmm???)
• 1893 - The New York Stock Exchange crashed!! (I'm sure it was nothing compared to those of late!!!)
• 1966 - Dark Shadows premiered on TV.
• 1967 - The First ATM was installed in London.
• 1969 - The Stonewall Riot's!!! (it was actually June 28 at about 1:30 am...regardless...coincidence??? hmmmm!!!??).
• 1970 - While I was being pushed from the womb...so was Jim Edmonds...who is he you ask??? he is a baseball player for the San Diego Pardres and carries as one of his nicknames.."Jimmy Baseball"
  

I realize all this is probably very boring to you, the reader, however the whole point to this is to go check out Wikipedia! In my research about June 27th, I found that there are great things in Wikipedia.

Wow, I'm actually blogging again
Ok...now don't get too excited...this will be a borring blog
Because, once again, I thought to blog while i'm at a client site and that's really not cool cause they don't pay me to blog
Regardless,
I shall blog
I shall send them a bill and then...
If they should mention this blog, I shall remove a 1/2 hour from my bill LOL

ok soooooooooo I really have to say that it's a bit frustrating being my own boss...sort of!

The hard part is actually all the extra stuff...such as taxes and my own insurance..... that stuff is frustrating. And the paperwork....ughhhhh!!!!

I'm doing the same work i've always done...and actually i'm doing the work I WANT to do which allows me to pick and choose what to do(although i never say no for reasons i'll talk about later).
Confused yet??

The thing is this...even though i'm essentially making the same money for doing the same work, being an independent contractor, i can make more money because I can write off stuff. The problem with that is all the extra paperwork and time I have to put into keeping track of it all. I think it'll be worth it, but I won't know until my taxes are done this year :)

It's been a bit of struggle to transition, paying bills late, etc...but i am finally feeling some control over it all and getting back on track, so 2008 should be a much better year for me stress wise...

I'll discuss the stress factor in another blog...because that's a whole other story (hence doing a whole other blog)...i digress (again!)

so anyway...i have to get back to doing some of this work...but to summarize.....

I'm finally feeling better about my decision to go independant and
the reason i won't say no to the work i really don't want to do is really important to understand
I don't want to burn any bridges with people who can get me good work in the future...so even though i'm my own boss i have to treat my clients like they are...and really...they are cause they are writing the checks that are allowing me do all this stuff...

In The Beginning

In the beginning, God created the Heaven and the Earth. And the Earth was without form and void. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, "Let there be light." And there was light....

Anddddd there was my blog...it's humble beginnings...as is the beginning of my new journey into the world of freelance consulting....ughhhh

So you may be wondering...why now? what makes you blog now...so far behind the times...i will tell you:

My wonderful friend Marcy is in China this week and she is blogging her little heart out...and I wanted to comment on one of her pictures and in the process of that..i fell into the blogger abyss. No blogger or google id and you get lost (well not really but it certainly sounds more entertaining than "because I felt like it")...anyway...that's my story and i'm sticking to it...I have decided to begin this blog on my work and my life...since both go together these days, i need some outlet to rant...cause working and living like this ain't easy.

In conclusion...I really can't be doing this right now, i'm at my client's office and i should be doing some work...I just wanted to get this going...hopefully it will continue and you will all be amused by my wonderous ramblings :)
